Timber Frame supply and erect Hollywood school, Co. Wicklow
In May 2013, Kilbroney Timber Frame signed a contract to supply and erect a timber frame kit for Scoil Chamoimhín Naofa in Hollywood, County Wicklow. Kilbroney were responsible for providing an environmentally friendly school build based on the clients requirements where it was our role to supply and fit insulation, plasterboard and tapered joints. The client came to Kilbroney Timber Frame highlighting their main criteria for the specification of the build as time constraints and building performance.
Based on the clients’ requirements, we provided a specification to meet their demands, keeping within the budgetary boundaries while providing a building that would be environmentally friendly, and easily heated.
External wall Insulation
The timber frame external wall build up and insulation specification included a 150mm Earthwool Frame Therm insulation roll between the studs, and a 40mm Therm rigid PIR insulation board to the face of the studs. This provided the desired U-Value (0.18 wm²k) to the client.
Internal wall Insulation
The timber frame internal wall insulation consisted of a 100mm Earthwool Ecose Acoustic roll between the studs meeting both the insulation and acoustic values required by the building regulations.
Kilbroney Timber Frame also insulated the ceiling in this schools project to a very high specification, with a 150mm loft roll between the joists and another roll of 150mm loft roll above the joists which in turn provided an ‘A’ rated Ceiling with a U-Value as low as 0.12wm²k.
Windows and Doors
Kilbroney Timber Frame provided a windows and doors set to compliment our timber frame kit and the client opted for our recommended and best performing window set, known as a Future Proof window. The client went for Black PVC future proof, double glazed windows in this case which met their demands for a building with significant performance levels; the U Value of this window set is 1.2wm²k. The door set the client opted for in this instance was an aluminium door set equipped with flat threshold, door handles and closers all supplied and fitted by Kilbroney Timber Frame. Kilbroney also provided six high specification roof lights to the client which we also fitted.
On the roof we used a breathable roofing felt called Fakro Eurotop N35 which Prevents the ingress of windblown rain, dust and snow and Reduces heat loss caused by air movement through the attic space once installed with no ventilation. The roof was then finished with standard Tegral slates.
